My interest in ceramics began in my twenties, but I took a 25-year break while I followed a career in biology research, returning to clay when I joined the Boulder Potters Guild in 2002 and was working at the University of Colorado. Since then, I have worked in porcelain and high-fired stoneware, mostly making functional pieces. I like decorating with wax resist and with oxides to get fine-line designs, and am currently experimenting with using slips. Perhaps my biology background explains why I use a lot of birds and animals in my decoration, perhaps it is just my lifelong interest and appreciation of nature.
I also work in paper, and make a line of handprinted embossed cards, again mainly using designs from nature. I sell these at the guild sales as well as taking online orders.
