Project Description

Using hand-formed and cast ceramic, I use the sturgeon motif in sculptural compositions that reference the animal’s habitat, history and endangered status. I use the finished casts to construct ‘frieze-like’ wall installations, free-standing compositions, larger constructed floor works  or ‘habitats’, and a series of work I call “ironic” ‘presentoirs’.  We live in the company of animals, unaware of our impact on their shrinking populations. With this work I hope to inspire curiosity and wonder about one singular creature, and in turn, perhaps spark a broader thoughtfulness about our physical environment.
