I work in high-fired stoneware and porcelain, and make mostly functional pieces, both reduction and salt fired. My pots are decorated with slips, underglazes, wax resist, carving, and inlay – a variety of techniques which let me create linear and pictorial designs on functional surfaces. Perhaps my background as a research biologist explains why I use a lot of birds and animals in my decoration. Another current source of inspiration is primitive art and cave paintings.

I also work in paper, making prints and handprinted embossed cards, again using mainly inspirations from nature.
