Wendy Gross uses a combination of wheel throwing, hand building and texturing to create functional pieces, the intention of which is to bring joy to everyday living. She crafts vessels from porcelain and stoneware clays fired at high-fire temperatures, and she gives special focus to development and testing of glazes. Nature, as well as visual and performing arts of all types -- and colors, patterns, textures and forms that they elicit -- inspires her creation of ceramic art. Her art education began as a teen at Fred Wilson's Muddy Wheel and at the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts Camp in Southern California, and has continued ever since. Locally, she's taken drawing, design and ceramics classes at the University of Colorado, classes at the Boulder Pottery Lab, and workshops in Boulder, Denver, and Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, CO. Currently based in Boulder, CO, Wendy has also lived in Washington, DC, Kansas and California.
