Intermediate - Advanced Cone 10 Reduction and Crystalline Firing
Every Thursday 6:30-9:30 pm 8 weeks
Dates: August 25-October 15
Instructors: Darryl Houghton & Elizabeth Lazarus
Level: Intermediate and Advanced level
Prerequisite: Basic throwing and trimming skills are required. Porcelain clay required for Crystalline.
This class will focus on helping students to refine throwing, trimming and glazing skills, and will also cover the preparation and firing techniques for Crystalline glazes. An emphasis will be placed on intentionally creating forms that reflect the creativity of the student. We will include both a gas firing (Cone 10) and a Crystalline firing (Cone 10). We will cover the entire journey of making pieces on the wheel through the glazing and firing process. Students will be encouraged to choose a specific focus for improvement; demos will reflect those choices. We will finish the class with gas-fired or crystalline pieces that celebrate their process. Students wanting to fire crystalline glazes must use porcelain clay.
